Cementary of Konoe Family at Daitoku-ji
The cemetry of Konoe Family is located in Daitoku-ji temple since the 1600s.
Daitoku-ji was a cultural salon for writers, tea masters, warriors, and more that the tea master Sen no Rikyu was closely linked to this temple. It has over twenty sub-temples; one of which is Hoshun-in that manages the family cementary.
Fumimaro Konoe (1891-1945) served as three times prime minister before the World War II. Just before the end of the war, fearing that the Emperor Showa would be held responsible for the war, Fumimaro was secretly arranging for the Emperor to become a monk at the Hoshun-in to save his life.
Hoshun-in has a beautiful zen garden connecting to a pagoda with a bridge, and a room which could have been the residence to the Emperor.
